| 10 Oct 2004 October 9, 2004 -- Hundreds of reptile vendors, reptile enthusiasts and over 10,000 geckos, frogs, iguanas, snakes, lizards, and tortoises will claim Chicago as their home October 9 and 10 for the 4th Annual North American Reptile Breeders Conference and Trade Show. If your apartment doesn"t allow cats or dogs or if allergies to furry friends keep you from having a pet, this could be the pet breakthrough meant for you! The cold-blooded creatures at this amazing exhibition and sale of pet-friendly "herps" are among the finest in the world. Open to the public, this quality, captive-bred-only reptile show produced by ECO Wear and Publishing and Chicago Reptile House, Inc. will feature over 100 dealers from across the country. The event is sponsored by T-Rex and Timberline. Both the reptile connoisseur and the reptile-curious shouldn"t miss this educational and exciting opportunity to encounter alternative pets along with all of the supplies needed to support a herp hobby. All of the animals at the North American Reptile Breeders Conference & Trade Show are audited to ensure compliance with all federal and state laws as well as the guidelines of the Herpetological Society and the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC). The North American Reptile Breeders Conference & Trade Show will also host several special events and educational lectures throughout the weekend (times to be announced). A presentation on turtles, "What to Expect with a Turtle" will be given by Darrell Senneke of World Chelonian Trust and kids will be especially intrigued at Jim Nesci"s interactive "Cold Blooded Creatures Show" with curtain times at 11a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each day. On Saturday evening at 6 p.m., the North American Reptile Breeders Conference will host an auction for the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC). PIJAC promotes the interests of the pet industry and develops aids to enhance humane and responsible care within the industry. Open to the public, admission is free and includes hors d"oeuvres and a cash bar. Proceeds from the live auction will be donated to this important industry organization. The North American Reptile Breeders Conference and Trade Show is open to the public Saturday, October 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Convention Center at Tinley Park Holiday Inn Select, 18501 S. Harlem Avenue (I-80 and Harlem Avenue) in Tinley Park, Illinois. Weekend passes to the Show are $15 for adults; while children under 13 are $ 8 (children ages 5 and under are admitted free) Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts with proof of membership will be admitted for $5. A special VIP badge, which allows show-goers advance entrance to the Show Preview on Friday, October 8 at 5 p.m. (along with complimentary snacks and beverages) as well as advance entrance at 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday is available for $100.
